Currently, The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is a searching candidate who can replace Ravi Shastri as a head coach. Shastri’s contract was supposed to end after the World Cup 2019 but the board extended it for more than 45 days. Thus Shastri’s tenure will end after the forthcoming tour of West Indies. India set to play Tests, ODIs & T20i against West Indies at their Home.
BCCI already invited application for the post of coach. Board has given direct entry to Shastri to continue with his role. Under the coaching of Shastri India had a good time across all the formats. India won ODIs series against Proteas in South Africa, Won Historical Test Series in Australia against The Australians. Won the ODIs series in New Zealand against Black Caps, also won the Asia Cup.
Shastri’s role is about to end in a few couples of days, thus in social media fans are tweeting to appoint Sourav Ganguly or Virendra Sehwag as the new Coach of Indian Team. Sehwag applied for head coach designation in 2017 but lost to Shastri.
Conditions to Applying for The Post Of Head Coach:
1. Candidate must have coached any test playing Nation for 2 years or more or Coach of Any Associate Members/IPL or any equivalent international league/ First Class Team/Nation A team for a minimum period of 3 years.
2. Candidate Must Have played 30 Tests or 50 ODIs or should have been in BCCI level 3 certification or equivalent.
3. Candidate must be below 60 years of age.
Why Sourav Ganguly & Virendra Sehwag Can’t Apply For The Post?
Well, Both Sourav Ganguly & Virendra Sehwag have played more than 30 Tests Matches as well as playing more than 50 ODIs and also they are below 60 years.
However, neither of them have Coached any international teams, Sehwag managed to coach Kings XI Punjab In IPL for little time but that too not as a head coach. On the other hand, Sourav Ganguly’s only experience in the backroom staff is serving Delhi Capital As A Mentor in IPL 2019. Thus Neither Ganguly nor Sehwag can apply for the post.
