19th September, India & Pakistan are going to clash for 13th time in the Asia Cup. The whole world is aware about India vs Pakistan match is a high voltage match. Whenever this two Arch-Rivals clash it become a history and creates many records. In total both India & Pakistan have played 12 games in Asia Cup among themselves, India managed to win 6 times while Pakistan has won 5 times & one match was abandoned. This will be the second encounter between this two team India and Pakistan in UAE in Asia cup, Inaugural years Asia cup was played in UAE. Let’s take a walk down the memory lane and rewind all the great contest between India & Pakistan:

From the year 1980-1990:

Asia Cup 1984: Inaugural edition of Asia Cup was played in 1984 in UAE. The first meeting of arch-rivals India & Pakistan the match was reduced to 46 overs. India batted first & managed to score only 184 runs Indian opener Surinder Khanna scored a fifty, Pakistan were bundled on 134 runs. India won the game by 34 runs and Surinder Khanna was declared ‘Man Of The Match’.

Asia Cup 1986: Two year later the Second edition of Asia cup was organized this time in Sri Lanka. India pulled themselves out of the tournament due to some problem. Bangladesh was included for the first time. Sri Lanka won the Asia cup by defeating Pakistan by 6 wickets.

Asia Cup 1988: After 1984 Asia Cup, India & Pakistan were head to head in Asia Cup history for the second time. India won the toss and asked Pakistan to bat first, Pakistan got flourish start as both the openers added 62 runs for the 1st wicket, but the games changed after the fall of the first wicket. One time Pakistan were 62/1 but ended their innings on 142/10. Arshad Ayub changed the game in India’s favour by picking 5 wickets for just 21 runs in his 9 overs. India won the game by 4 wickets Lala Amarnath scored 74 runs for India. Arshad Ayub was declared the ‘Man Of The Match’.

Asia Cup 1990-91: The fourth edition of Asia was played in India. Pakistan had pulled out of the tournament due to some political relation with India. Participant team were India, Sri Lanka & Bangladesh. India won the title for the 3 time by defeating Sri Lanka in the final by 7

From the year 1990-2000:

Asia Cup 1993: The Fifth Edition of Asia Cup was completely cancelled due to political strained.

Asia Cup 1995: Known as ‘PEPSI ASIA CUP’. This time again, it was hosted by the UAE. Pakistan was lucky this time because they defeated India for the first time in Asia Cup by 97 runs. Aaqib Javed was declared the ‘Man Of The Match”.

Asia Cup 1997: India-Pakistan match was whitewashed due to Rain & Bad lights.

Asia Cup 2000: Bangladesh hosted this Asia Cup. Pakistan defeated India for the second time.Pakistan batted first and scored 295/7, Yusuf Youhana scored a Ton, India was bundled for 251 Ajay Jadeja fought and scored 93. Yusuf Youhana declared ‘Man Of The Match’.

From the year 2000-2010:

Asia Cup 2004: Pakistan batted first and scored 300 runs with the help of Shoaib Mallik’s brilliant century,while chasing 301 India could only manage to score 241/8,Sachin was the top scorer for team India scored 78 runs.Pakistan won the match by 59 runs and Shoaib Malik as to declare the ‘Man of the Match.

Asia Cup 2008: Also called ‘Star Cricket Asia Cup’. Pakistan lost the first game and was in search of a win in the Asia Cup. MS Dhoni after winning the toss elected to bat first. Team India scored 308, however Pakistan easily chased down the total with the help of Younis Khan’s unbeaten 123 runs knock and Misbah-UL-Haq scoring 70 runs. Younis Khan declared ‘Man Of The Match’.

Asia Cup 2010: Played in Srilanka. India won the toss and elected to field first, Pakistan set a target of 268 runs. In response India got off to a good start situation was balanced, Gautam Gambhir scored a fifty but it was Harbhajan Singh, who finished the game in style by hitting the ball for a six.

From the year 2000 till now:

Asia Cup 2012: Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat. Pakistan posted a target of 330 runs. While chasing India lost the wicket of Gautam Gambhir in second ball of Indian innings. It was Virat Kohli, who stood up scored 183 runs and guided the Indian team to a victory over Pakistan. Virat Kohli declared the ‘Man Of The Match’.

Asia Cup 2014: Also known as ‘Arise Asia cup’, a tournament held in Bangladesh. Pakistan won the toss and elected to field first, India could manage only 245 runs on the board. Pakistan won the nail-betting game by 1 wicket as Shahid Afridi hit 2 consecutive six to Ravichandra Ashwin. Mohammad Hafeez was declared ‘Man of the Match’.

Asia cup 2016: Also known as ‘Micromax Asia Cup’. It was held in Bangladesh, for the first time it was played in T20 format. Pakistan was put into bat first and were bundled for just 83 runs within 18 overs. Virat Kohli’s anchored inning helped team India to win this game. Virat Kohli was declared ‘Man Of The Match’.

Asia Cup 2018: For the Third time UAE is hosting Asia cup. India &  Pakistan both has managed to win one game each of their last two encounters played in UAE.
